Robbery suspect caught by cartoon

17jan06

A MAN who allegedly robbed a renowned Victorian cartoonist has been caught, thanks to a detailed caricature drawn by his victim.

Police said the cartoonist, Bill `Weg' Green, who is famous for his drawings of AFL Grand Final teams, offered to draw a picture of the robber when police arrived at his home in Melbourne's east.

Mr Green, 82, had been confronted by the robber in the carport of his Heathmont home on Saturday morning, police said.

The robber tried to assault Mr Green, then stole a red racing bicycle from the rear shed, Senior Constable Michael Henry said.

Police who attended the scene took the drawing with them to meet other officers who had arrested a man for another theft nearby.

"Holding up the cartoon, both members were amazed to find it was the spitting image of the arrested man in the back of the divisional van," Senior Constable Henry said. A 34-year-old Boronia man was interviewed in relation to burglary, theft and unlawful assault and was to face court at a later date.

Whale sighting a treat for Londoners

A man tries to usher a northern bottle-nosed whale away from the Chelsea embankment of the river Thames, near Battersea Bridge in south London.

By Kerri Ritchie,

A rescue effort is under way for a seven-tonne whale that has managed to find its way into the River Thames in central London.

Hundreds of Londoners flocked to the banks of the Thames to catch a rare glimpse of the five-metre long whale, which is swimming near the Houses of Parliament.

Television cameras followed the whale as it swam past a series of landmarks in the British capital, including Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament.

Authorities were notified by a man who spotted the animal on his way to work.

He told them he thought he was hallucinating.

There are fears the lost whale is sick and vets are monitoring its movements.

Northern bottle-nosed whales are deep sea animals, not usually found in British waters.

A boat is protecting the animal from being hit by other boats.

Whale experts are trying to work out the best way to herd the mammal back to the sea.

Whale Spew...

That kind of answers a few questions I had about perfume... and reminds me of an episode of Aaargh Real Monsters!
