After a recent online chat with one British comedian about the power of the Melbourne Comedy Festival playing matchmaker and finding them wives, I found the following piece in todays copy of The Age particularly amusing...

PERSONALS

Falling in the aisles

There are still pleasures afoot in the Empire, however. Richard Herring, one of the British comedians invited to the Melbourne Comedy Festival, observed that a lot of his fellow funsters seem to be married to Australians they meet in the course of that merry month of April. Herring was in Bendigo only a few months ago for the wedding of Al Murray, the Pub Landlord; Simon Munnery is another; Ben Elton, as we all know, was one of the first. His theory is that Australian women are ``less wound up" than English ones, while the British men - and, to do him justice, he was a bit cautious about this - ``possibly seem more sophisticated than Australian ones". So, girls! Herring is 35, apparently solvent, Oxford grad, quite famous on his home turf and, I can testify from sharing a very long car ride, jolly good company. He also has a girlfriend, but Melbourne is clearly a powerful force for romance.

I know this whole topic is a fave in-joke amongst most of those Brit funny people, placing bets on who will be next... So I guess its a case of "look out ladies!"  hehe

sadly Matt, I don't think so.
You won't be trying to pass yourself off as British comic again, will you?  Just because you have a UK passport it doesn't ...
ummm...
now that I think about it...
what are my chances? hehe

with a Brit male comedian? sure, but i don't think you can get married in Australia. You may have to go to Las vegas for that.

Or Denmark, or the Netherlands...not that i've researched or anything...*scampers off to her corner*

"Deep down you want to get a gun and fucking shoot everyone, but you can't, right?" - Matthew Bellamy, NME Magazine.

"On the other hand, if you add 'le' to a word, it does make it classy...like 'lesbian', the classiest women of them all!" - Captain Hero, Drawn Together.
