The breakfast host on new baby-boomer station Vega will be comic Shaun Micallef.

Micallef began his career as a writer and actor for the ABC's The Big Gig.

He has since starred in films and hosted his own comedy program on the ABC and the Nine network.

The station is playing music and short promotions on 91.5 FM ahead of its launch on Monday, September 5.

In Sydney, the station is fully operational, with high-profile DJs hosting talkback, news and music.

Angela Catterns - whose last job was as breakfast host on 702, the ABC's Sydney station - also presents breakfast with her new employer, putting her up against 774's Red Symons.

With the exception of Catterns, the voices you will hear will be the same in both cities across the day: comedian Wendy Harmer in the morning, ex-Triple J presenter Francis Leach in the afternoon and colleagues from TV sports chat show The Fat, Tony Squires and Rebecca Wilson hosting drive.

Micallef, who has three children aged between 2 and 7, said he was "in training" for the early starts.

"I don't yet have to suffer the indignity of going to bed before my children," he said.
He has not been on radio since the 1980s. "It's been a while . . . there's still a microphone, I think."

Micallef will work from a voice-over booth in Nova's Richmond studios until the new Vega studios are ready.

His breakfast slot will be the only program broadcast on Vega Melbourne in September. Full programming is expected to start in October.

Drunk Midget to even Drunker Chick - Have you ever had anyone go up on you before?

Son: Is there anything we can do to get Buffy back?
Mom: Well, we could join together in prayer.
Son: Uh huh. Is there anything useful we can do?
Mom: No.
