Rove Backs Sketch Show popular talk show host, rove mcmanus is spreading his wings. network ten has commissioned 13 episodes of a new sketch comedy program from his Roving Enterprises production company. The program is now in production in Melbourne. Roving enterprises, producers and the 16th Annual ARIA awards, are working with a team of writers, actors and comedians to deliver the show to the network in early 2003. Mcmanus will not appear in the program, however ROVE LIVE regulars Peter Helliar and Corrine Grant will join the team. While the cast has worked as writers and performers in live theatre, stand-up comedy and television, most of them will be new names for Australian TV viewers. While some such as Roz Hammond and Fiona Harris, have been seen on programs such as 'The Micallef Program' and 'Flipside', most are better known as live performers. Damian Callinan, Tom Gleeson, Scott Brennan and Michael Chamberlin all come from a stand-up comedy background. Also joining the cast, will be Scott Edgar, Simon Hall and Stephen Gates, members of the musical comedy act Tripod. All of the performers are also writing for the program. "sketch has been something that we have always wanted to get our teeth into so we are excited to be able to make this show for the network". Mcmanus says.

“A fella, on the telly the other week, was saying, ‘you’ve only got so many ‘eartbeats in a lifetime’. So we shouldn’t waste em should we. We shouldn’t be all running around, lifting weights and that.” Karl Pilkington on Health

good to see a healthy representation of acts from "other agencies". theres more (beautiful, wonderfully talented) people that have signed on in addition to those listed in that article. people that, until now, have remained largely beneath the radar. lets hope this show works out, it could be exactly what australian comedy needs.
