The marriage apparently wouldn't have any legal basis outside of Belgium, though? Be a bit pointless for anyone who doesn't live in Belgium or the Netherlands, I guess...

The point is that a precedent has been set, so gays and lesbians can look forward to what happens after governments see the decisions, hopefully having a more open mind.

I meant pointless going there to get married to your same sex partner, since the marriage isn't legal elsewhere as it would be with a 'normal' marriage in most countries.

Ah, good good. I don't really care either way as the decision has no effect on me whatsoever.

Well at least there's one country that's open-minded and progressive.

If he's not here in five minutes I'll buy a gun and fucking stab him with it!

Go ahead and talk to me. My day was already ruined anyway.

In Sweden same sex couples can get married (? a civil ceremony ) I went here a few yrs ago on a contiki tour & I remember the Swedish tour guide saying it when we were touring the town hall...

I think everyone should be allowed to get married, there's presents, cake & dancing...

As said in the article, the Netherlands have had a similar law for a while now.
In most countries you can have an unofficial marriage without any hassles. It's the additional "benefits" that regular spouses get that aren't being granted to same sex couples that's the big issue. Inheritance rights, social security benefits, the right to adopt and various other things I don't know about because I've not researched it particularly since I'm not gay... :pineappl:
